Arkansas coach John L. Smith says the Razorbacks play in Alabama (Video)

Arkansas entered the season ranked in the top 10 in the USA TODAY and AP polls, but it has managed just one win in four games. After starting out the year with a win over little-known Jacksonville State, the Razorbacks have dropped three straight games including a shocking upset to the University of Louisiana at Monroe and an embarrassing 51-0 shellacking at the hands of Alabama.

Head coach John L. Smith is not ready to give up. As you can see from the video above that Deadspin passed along, Smith was rallying the media, the fans and the state of Alabama to stick with the Razorbacks. That’s right, the state of Alabama.

Of course, Smith meant to say Arkansas. Everyone falls victim to the occasional verbal miscue from time to time, but obviously this one holds a little more weight than most. According to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, Smith was informed of his flub shortly after making it and played it off by saying, “Oh? I did? Where would that come from? I’ve never heard of Alabama?” We know Smith loves to joke around, but people would probably appreciate it more if his team had better than a 1-3 record.
