When Arkansas announced that John L. Smith would serve as the team’s interim head coach in the wake of the Bobby Petrino scandal, writers and reporters knew they were in for a season of memorable quotes and entertaining moments. Smith was known for keeping things loose and goofing around during his days as the head coach at Louisville and Michigan State, and he was at it again before a press conference on Monday when he whipped out his cell phone and called reporter Nate Allen, who was late for the session. Check out these two clips that Matt Jones of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette passed along:
In Allen’s defense, Smith was about 10 minutes early to the press conference so he wasn’t exactly late. When he arrived, the veteran reporter reminded Smith that he was about an hour late after practice last Thursday. While we can’t be sure what type of results the Razorbacks will see with Smith leading the way this year, those of you who enjoy moments like this one should be rooting for Arkansas to have a successful season.
