Kyler Murray’s agent fires back at curious quote from Lincoln Riley

Kyler Murray

Oklahoma football coach Lincoln Riley seems to think that quarterback Kyler Murray may not turn to professional baseball after this coming season, but Murray’s agent was very quick to correct the record.

There was some confusion when Riley left the door open to Murray returning for his senior season, despite the fact that he has signed a professional contract with the Oakland Athletics.

“Well, I’m not gonna really … decide how I want to handle that … um, we’ll see if it’s his final year,” Riley said. “That hasn’t really been determined yet. I’m not worried about it if it is or if it isn’t. That’s gonna have no impact on this year.”

Murray’s agent, Scott Boras, made clear very quickly that is has very much been determined.

“Kyler’s baseball career has a very defined path which includes playing football at OU for only the 2018 season,” Boras told Jason Kersey of The Athletic.

Murray made it clear he wanted to play football, but it also seemed clear that he was going to do it for one year before committing fully to his baseball career. It’s rather odd that Riley seemed to be caught off-guard by such a question.
