Report: Lane Kiffin to be named next head coach at Houston

Lane Kiffin is reportedly on the verge of being hired as the next head coach at Houston.
Two people with knowledge of the situation told Dan Wolken of USA Today that Houston has decided on Kiffin, though the final approval will have to come from university president Renu Khator on Thursday. Wolken notes that Kiffin has been operating under the assumption that the job is his.
However, a report from Joseph Duarte of the Houston Chronicle claimed Houston had not offered its head coaching job to anyone and remained undecided as of Thursday morning.

Kiffin’s name has been connected to numerous head coach and offensive coordinator positions over the past few weeks. He was also seen as a possibility for the new vacancy at South Florida, though his ex-wife’s connections to the team may have erased that option.
If Kiffin has, in fact, been hired by Houston, he will replace Tom Herman and attempt to duplicate the offensive success the program had under the now-Texas head coach. For now, Nick Saban insists that Kiffin remains focused on his duties with Alabama and the College Football Playoff.
