LSU fans throw bottles on field during Alabama game
LSU supporters took a page out of Texas’ playbook to protest a call during Saturday’s marquee matchup against Alabama.
Alabama led LSU 21-6 midway through the third quarter at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, La. The Crimson Tide had 3rd-and-8 at its own 38 when the Tigers were flagged for a face mask penalty that gave Alabama an automatic first down.
Despite there being a clear face mask grab on the play, the LSU crowd was not happy with the call. The home fans pelted the field with water bottles in order to get the referees’ attention.
What are LSU fans doing?
And what is Brian Kelly whining about?

ESPN announcer Kirk Herbstreit called the stunt “stupid,” and for good reason. Even LSU’s own cheerleaders had to shield themselves from getting hurt.
Some felt that LSU was trying to mimic what Texas did last month when Longhorns supporters seemingly got a bad call reversed after trash was thrown on the field.
The call that went against Texas, however, was very much questionable. The one that went against LSU did not appear to be. While the reversed call during last month’s Texas-Georgia game arguably fixed a mistake, it may have set a bad precedent for upset fan bases to air their frustrations the wrong way.
