The North Carolina Tar Heels are making a staffing move to try and help Bill Belichick with his present public relations issues.

Albert Breer of The MMQB confirmed Monday that the Tar Heels are hiring former Chicago Bears PR chief Brandon Faber to aid Belichick. Notably, Faber is being hired directly by the football program, not by Belichick.

Faber does not yet have a job title, but is expected to essentially handle communications on behalf of the football program.

Breer adds that Belichick is “aware” of what is being said about him and his relationship with Jordon Hudson, which has attracted increased scrutiny recently. The speculation has reached a point that it was reported that Hudson has been banned from being around the football program, though the school has denied that.

The hire of a PR assistant had been reported previously, and one has to wonder if the situation accelerated as speculation continues to grow about Belichick’s place at North Carolina.

Belichick could certainly use the help. The last few weeks have been uncharacteristically chaotic for a coach who is famous for shunning distractions and keeping his focus solely on football. Questions have come up regarding Hudson’s influence over both Belichick and the football program, and one of Faber’s jobs will likely be to try to minimize those questions going forward.
