SEC announces punishments for LSU, Ole Miss over fan incidents
The SEC is coming down on both LSU and Ole Miss over their respective incidents of fan misbehavior over the weekend.
In a release Monday, the SEC announced that they are fining LSU $250,000 after their fans threw trash onto the field during Saturday’s game against Alabama, causing an interruption. The SEC also announced in the same release that they are fining Ole Miss $350,000 after their fans rushed the field early to celebrate a win over Georgia on Saturday.
Ole Miss’ fine breaks down to a $250,000 base fine plus an additional $100,000 fine due to it being their second offense of a premature field-storming (with the first having occurred in Sept. 2023 before the end of a victory over LSU). The release also notes that field-storming fines for conference games are paid to the opposing institution while all other sportsmanship fines (such as the one incurred by LSU for the trash-throwing against Alabama) are paid into the SEC’s post-graduate scholarship program.

The LSU incident occurred in the third quarter of the Alabama game when fans threw bottles onto the field to protest a facemask call they disagreed with (video here). As for Ole Miss, their incident occurred with 16 seconds left in their 28-10 win over Georgia. Rebels fans rushed the field en masse, delaying the end of the game and infuriating Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin (watch here).
As for the SEC, the $250,000 base fine is consistent with punishments that they have doled out this season. Texas was also fined that same amount for last month’s trash-throwing incident against an SEC school in Georgia.
