Sonny Dykes takes shot at Jameis Winston in praising Jared Goff

Sonny Dykes took an inadvertent shot at Jameis Winston while praising his quarterback, Jared Goff.

Cal is off to a 3-0 start, and that has been leading to a lot of extra publicity for Goff, the team’s star quarterback. Goff broke the school’s records for completions, passing yards and total offense in Saturday’s win over Texas, and there is talk about him being one of the top QBs in the country.

Dykes made the case for Goff to be the first quarterback taken in the NFL draft should the junior come out early next year.

“He does some stuff I’ve never seen anybody do before,” Dykes told SI’s Campus Rush. “He gets the ball out so quick. He sees things. He’s got all the stuff. Physically, he’s still real skinny, and when [NFL scouts] get around him, they’re going to go, ‘Am I really going to give this guy $100 million?’ Other than that, there’s not one negative thing you can say about the guy. He’s humble, he’s hard-working and loves football. There’s not one single skeleton in his closet. He’s all the stuff that you want. He’s never stolen crab legs, any kind of that stuff. You don’t have to worry about all that with him.”

Any time someone mentions crab legs, that’s a clear shot at Winston, who was busted for stealing some good from a grocery store prior to last season. About the only person who didn’t know that story was Jim Harbaugh.

Oh, and one more note for Dykes: not having any red flags can actually be a bad thing for a player sometimes.
