Marcus Mariota’s lack of red flags was a concern for NFL teams
Those familiar with the saying “too good to be true” can probably relate to the evaluation some NFL teams had for quarterback Marcus Mariota.
According to ESPN’s Brett McMurphy, Oregon coach Mark Helfrich says he was told by an NFL coach and GM before the NFL draft that Mariota not having any red flags was a concern.

Mariota’s apparent lack of red flags did not deter the Tennessee Titans, who made the Heisman Trophy winner the No. 2 overall pick in the draft.
But think about how ridiculous the entire story is. The NFL is so used to finding at least something wrong with players that they balk when they can’t dig up any dirt.
If it makes teams feel better, we at least have this about Mariota. It’s not much, but it might allay their concerns about the lack of concerns.
