Texas took a page out of Baker Mayfield’s book Saturday after their team demolished Oklahoma in the latest chapter of the Red River Rivalry.
No. 1 Texas clobbered No. 18 Oklahoma 34-3 at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas.
Oklahoma’s defense held up early in the contest as Texas failed to score over its first three drives. But the Longhorns erupted for a 21-point second quarter to take a huge lead they would never relinquish.
After the game, a couple of Texas players decided to take a shot at Mayfield. Longhorns linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. laid out a Mayfield Oklahoma jersey in the middle of the field. His teammate Barryn Sorrell planted a Texas school flag right on Mayfield’s old uniform.

Seven years ago, Mayfield infamously did something similar when his Oklahoma squad beat Ohio State on the road. While the Oklahoma alum didn’t poke a flag through anyone’s jersey, Mayfield did plant one right on top of Ohio State’s midfield logo at Ohio Stadium.
Mayfield ended up apologizing for the gesture a few days later. It remains to be seen if Hill and Sorrell will feel obligated to do the same.
Perhaps the Texas players just wanted some revenge over one Oklahoma player’s disrespectful pregame stunt.
