Tommy Tuberville has unique way of praising Nick Saban, Alabama

Nick Saban

Nick Saban’s 2018 Alabama team not only looks like his best, but it very well could be one of the best college football teams of all time. After the Crimson Tide went on the road and dominated LSU last weekend, one former coach said he has no doubts about where Alabama is headed this year.

Tommy Tuberville, who coached in the SEC for many years in the 1990s and 2000s, said during an appearance on Paul Finebaum’s Show this week that Saban is taking all of the fun out of college football. He meant it as a compliment.

“They’ve taken the fun out of it, Paul. Nick Saban has absolutely taken the fun out of it,” Tuberville said, as transcribed by Austin Nivison of 247Sports.com. “It’s not even fun to watch because you know they’re going to win. You just don’t know by how much.”

Like many others, Finebaum believed Alabama could have at least somewhat of a difficult time against an LSU team that was coming off back-to-back wins over Georgia and Mississippi State. Instead, the Tide had no problem putting up points and turned in one of their most dominant defensive efforts of the season, pounding the Tigers 29-0 on their own turf.

Tuberville noted how Alabama is “rolling on defense” and reminds him of the dominant teams he was an assistant coach for at Miami under Jimmy Johnson.

“So it’s really become unfair. It’s taken all the fun out of November, and the championship game,” he said. “I don’t see anybody, unless it’s going to be Clemson, that might have a decent chance to play them with four weeks off and have a chance to circle the wagons.”

Saban hates when the media praises his team and has referred to it as “rat poison,” but even he couldn’t hide how pleased he was after Alabama beat LSU. Anything short of another national championship would be shocking for Saban this year.
