Tua Tagovailoa is always going to be best known for his role as Alabama’s quarterback. However, he has a new role on the team that he seems just as excited about.
Tagovailoa will handle holding duties for the Crimson Tide in 2019, and he seemed extremely enthusiastic about winning the role. He admitted he put a lot of work into the role, calling it “the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do” and thanking everyone who’d helped and supported him.

It’s the sort of work ethic Alabama fans must love. Tagovailoa didn’t have to work this hard on mastering holding. He’s a Heisman candidate and could have thrown his entire focus into quarterbacking the team. He chose not to, and he’s taken on a very important but understated role in the process.
Nick Saban wanted to see Tagovailoa challenge himself after the way the 2018 season ended. Perhaps this isn’t what the coach meant, but it’s definitely in the spirit of it.
