AAF QB Christian Hackenberg gets benched by Memphis Express
Christian Hackenberg continues to disappoint, even in a new league.
Hackenberg has been officially benched by the Memphis Express as the team’s starting quarterback. He is being replaced by Zach Mettenberger.
Hackenberg had a poor debut in the league two weeks ago and continued to struggle over his next two games. He was benched at halftime of the team’s 21-17 loss to Orlando on Saturday. Mettenberger went 9/12 for 120 yards and two touchdowns as he attempted a comeback. The former LSU quarterback will now get the chance to lead the team.
“The lift that Zach gave the team Saturday, it was a great feeling,” Express head coach Mike Singletary said. “To see a young man go out there and make some plays and really change the momentum of the game was impressive. We just have to put a whole game together and see how that looks.”
Hackenberg, once a second-round pick by the New York Jets, is 32/62 for 277 yards, 3 interceptions and no touchdowns on the season.
