Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Adonai Mitchell committed the gravest sin possible as he was crossing the goal line with an apparent touchdown during Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams.
Mitchell appeared to have reeled in a 76-yard touchdown pass from Daniel Jones during the third quarter of Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Ca. Mitchell made the catch just shy of the Rams’ 40, spun out of a tackle, and outran two Rams defenders to make it to the end zone.
Then Mitchell committed the unforgivable error of celebrating too early. Replays showed that Mitchell lost control of the football before crossing the goal line while he celebrated. As a result, the play was ruled a fumble and a touchback, as the ball went out of the end zone.

Every so often, a player makes this mistake and costs their team dearly. A different Colts player even did the same thing late last season, so Mitchell really should have known better.
DeSean Jackson remains the most infamous example of this move, and his name still comes to mind every time someone else does it. It is not exactly a legacy Mitchell will want.
Now in his second NFL season, Mitchell has yet to catch an NFL touchdown. This would have been his first, which only makes it more painful and embarrassing.
