Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver AJ Green suffered a significant injury in practice over the weekend that is expected to keep him out several weeks, but he apparently is not giving up on playing when the regular season begins.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Green got a second opinion on his sprained ankle and has opted for rest and rehab rather than surgery. While his timeline for recovery remains unknown, Rapoport said “no one I’ve talked to has ruled him out for the opener.”

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported previously that Green suffered torn ligaments in his ankle — which may not be as severe as it sounds — and is expected to be out up to two months. That timeline means he won’t be available for Week 1, but the Bengals are trying to take things day by day.
Green battled foot problems last season, but the most frustrating aspect of the latest injury is that many believe it was caused by the field where the Bengals chose to hold their practice.
