Bengals staffers had concerns about Dayton field where AJ Green got hurt
The Cincinnati Bengals appear to have dodged a bullet with the severity of A.J. Green’s ankle injury, but that will come as little solace to some team staffers.
At the urging of the NFL as part of its 100th anniversary celebrations, the Bengals practiced at the University of Dayton’s home stadium, Welcome Stadium. After only an hour of work, Bengals staffers felt that the field there was subpar, according to Albert Breer of SI. The fact that Green got hurt on it was a source of frustration to those involved.
Though there is no clear link between the field and Green’s injury, one staffer said that players were sliding on the field, while another said there were pebbles stuck in the turf.
The belief is that Green suffered a sprained ankle, though the Bengals are waiting on confirmation. The team was optimistic that it would not prove serious, but it’s fair to say the Bengals won’t want to practice on that field again.
