Andrew Luck says Colts fans booing him ‘hurt’

Andrew Luck

Andrew Luck gave an honest press conference on Saturday night after news of his shocking retirement leaked. During that time of honesty, the former Indianapolis Colts quarterback admitted he was hurt by the fans who booed him walking off the field at Lucas Oil Stadium after the Colts’ preseason loss to the Bears.

Videos showed fans booing Luck when he walked off the field. The boos came as news of Luck’s decision to retire circulated.

Luck, 29, said that the cycle of being in pain and rehabbing that he’d fallen into the past four years took its toll on him and took away his love of the game. He suffered numerous injuries since 2015, including rib, kidney, abdominal, shoulder, a concussion, and ankle/calf injuries. He was beat up by the game and felt like he’d been totally drained mentally by the rehab.

The decision means he walks away from the NFL having been named to four Pro Bowls and earned $97 million. He left about $64 million on the table by walking away from his current contract.
