Attorney for Deandre Baker issues statement saying client is innocent
The attorney for Deandre Baker issued a statement via Instagram on Friday to defend his client and proclaim the innocence of the New York Giants cornerback.
An arrest warrant was issued by Miramar Police for Baker and fellow NFL cornerback Quinton Dunbar on Thursday. The two men are accused of armed robbery, and Baker is accused of four counts of aggravated assault. The players are accused of robbing people of cash and luxury watches during a party in Florida in Wednesday night.
Baker’s attorney disputes the allegations.
“I want to thank @miramarpd for being professional in regards to surrendering and issues with the case,” Baker’s attorney said. “We understand that the officers can only base warrants on what was told to them at the time. We have had affidavits from several witnesses that also dispute the allegations and exculpate our client. Our investigator has had them for some time. We would have rather presented them to the court at the proper time, rather than in the media, but in this day and age, people rush to judgement. Where some seek publicity, we seek justice. I look forward to moving this case forward to proper conclusion, as we believe our client is innocent of any charges.”
The key part is that the attorney says they have witness statements that would clear Baker.
Baker, 22, was a first-round pick by the Giants out of Georgia last year. The cornerback had 48 tackles and eight passes defended.
