Baker Mayfield had amazing exchange about his Tommy DeVito celebration

Baker Mayfield talks in front of a microphone

Baker Mayfield thrilled fans on Sunday when he copied Tommy DeVito’s celebration. It’s only fitting that Mayfield’s press conference was also quite entertaining.

Mayfield led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a 30-7 victory over DeVito’s New York Giants at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. The win snapped the Bucs’ four-game losing streak.

The most electric play of the game came in the closing seconds of the first half. With the Buccaneers facing 2nd-and-goal at the Giants’ 10, Mayfield scrambled his way toward the goal line and leaped into the end zone for a touchdown. Mayfield celebrated the score by mimicking DeVito’s signature move.

During his postgame press conference, Mayfield fielded several questions about his DeVito-esque celebration. Reporters seemingly tried to dissect the topic as seriously as a critical late-game play. It also led to a hilarious interaction between Mayfield and ESPN reporter Jenna Laine.

Laine: “Are you Italian?”

Mayfield: “I haven’t done a 23andme but … I don’t know.”

Several fans reacted to the post stating that Laine may have taken the entire thing too seriously. She responded by assuring them that everything was tongue-in-cheek.

Mayfield made sure to call the celebration a “tribute” to DeVito and said that the Giants QB has “swagger.” But it’s clear that Mayfield won his battle against Tommy Cutlets.

The Buccaneers QB went 24/30 for 294 yards and recorded a rushing TD, while DeVito threw 21/31 for 189 yards.
