New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll has stuck with Daniel Jones as his starting quarterback through a terrible first half of the season, but it is starting to sound like a change could be on the horizon.
The Giants have a bye in Week 11. Struggling teams often make significant changes during the bye week, and Daboll was asked on Monday if Jones will remain New York’s starting quarterback. The coach would only say that he and his staff will be “evaluating” the situation during the week off.
“We’re going to spend a lot of time watching tape and evaluating. … We’re evaluating our team at the bye week,” Daboll told reporters.

That is a significant change from the way Daboll has answered questions about Jones since the start of the season. The Giants are 2-8 and in contention for the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Jones has 2,070 yards, 8 touchdowns and 7 interceptions through 10 games. Even as Jones has struggled, Daboll has stuck with the former first-round pick and reminded everyone that the Giants have plenty of problems outside the quarterback position.
Daboll’s tone has clearly changed. He even seemed to throw Jones under the bus during an interview after the first quarter of Sunday’s 20-17 overtime loss to the Carolina Panthers in Germany.
The Giants owe Jones the remainder of his guaranteed $35.5 million salary for this season. They also might have serious financial incentive to bench him down the stretch.
It would hardly be a surprise if the Giants make a QB change during the bye week. The question would then be whether they want to go with Drew Lock or Tommy DeVito.
