New York Giants coach Brian Daboll is somewhat staking his head coaching career on the success of rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. That is why he made a pretty bold statement about Dart after watching the rookie score his first NFL touchdown on Sunday.
Dart found the end zone on a 15-yard run in the first quarter of Sunday’s win over the Los Angeles Chargers at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. Daboll was mic’d up for the game and did not hold back with his response when Dart scored.
“That’s our f—ing guy!” Daboll exclaimed (profanity censored by LBS).
Daboll has invested a lot in Dart. After being on the hot seat last season, the coach watched as the team drafted Dart but also signed Russell Wilson during the offseason. Wilson may have been the short-term fix, but it was obvious that Dart was the one Daboll viewed as a potential long-term solution at the position.
Dart does seem to have given the Giants a spark after winning his first start. He only threw for 111 yards, but tallied two total touchdowns in a 21-18 victory. Daboll has to hope it continues, because his job might be in the balance.
