Browns release Pro Bowl player following big trade
The Cleveland Browns gave Jarvis Landry permission to seek a trade over the weekend, but the star receiver must not have been able to find any suitors.
The Browns released Landry on Monday, according to multiple reports.
Cleveland on Saturday acquired Amari Cooper in a trade with the Dallas Cowboys. That move signaled the end of Landry’s tenure with the team, and he was told he could seek a trade partner for the Browns. His salary cap number may have prevented him from being able to drum up interest.
Landry, 29, was set to count $16.3 million against the cap in 2022. He was in the final year of a five-year, $75 million deal he signed with the Browns back in 2018.
Landry made five straight Pro Bowls from 2015-2019. In 12 games last season, he had 52 catches for 570 yards and 2 touchdowns. He had 72 catches for 840 yards and 3 touchdowns in 2020. He indicated early in the offseason that he was frustrated with the Browns.
