Cleveland Browns defensive back Ronnie Hickman was hospitalized Monday after being jumped by a gang in a hotel lobby in New York.
Hickman was attacked by four individuals in the lobby of the SIXTY LES hotel on the Lower East Side shortly after 4:30 a.m., according to Joe Marino, Amanda Woods, and Jorge Fitz-Gibbon of the New York Post. Hickman was allegedly “slugged” before the four suspects took off.
Hickman was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. He was later released by Monday afternoon.
It is not clear if Hickman was the victim of a targeted attack or if his attackers recognized him.
The Browns released a statement Monday afternoon acknowledging the incident, calling Hickman “a victim of assault.”
“Ronnie was treated for minor injuries at an area hospital after the incident, was later released, and is home resting with his family,” the statement said.

Hickman is coming off a breakout season for the Browns in which he made 103 total tackles with two interceptions in 17 games. He is set to be a restricted free agent this offseason.
