The Daejon Love web is even more elaborate than initially thought.
The story of Daejon Labrayae Love, a 35-year-old man posing as a San Francisco 49ers player, made headlines last month after he allegedly scammed 26 women out of a total of $1.3 million. Love was charged with wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
The FBI has reportedly provided an update on the case. According to The Athletic’s Matt Moret, 35 more women have come forward with claims that Love scammed them, bumping the total number of alleged victims to 61. The FBI has yet to update the estimate for how much money was lost as the agency continues to verify some of the women’s claims against Love.
Love pretended to be a wide receiver for the 49ers and used dating apps to connect with his alleged victims. He conspired with Taylor Chan, posing as his financial advisor, to convince women to invest their money with them. The pair instead used the funds to finance their own lavish lifestyles and blocked their alleged victims as they caught on.
While Love’s victims endured online ridicule for falling for the scam, Love went to great lengths to maintain an online persona that would not be uncovered by a simple Google search. Love reportedly tricked AI tools and had his name listed as an NFL player in Google results.
The total number of Love’s victims continues to grow by the day.
