Cardinals new coach undecided on Kyler Murray’s future

The Arizona Cardinals and Las Vegas Raiders were the last two teams remaining in the busy head coaching search.

The Raiders have decided on Seattle Seahawks OC Klint Kubiak. The Cardinals hired Los Angeles Rams OC Mike LaFleur, which means all 10 jobs are filled.

On Tuesday, LaFleur had his introductory press conference, and the new Cardinals coach admitted he has yet to decide on the future of quarterback Kyler Murray as well as some other question marks with the roster.

“We’ve got to go back and talk about all these decisions – quarterback, O-line, specialists,” LaFleur said, via team reporter Darrin Urban. “Everything. It’s our job and for these players to build the best roster at each position. Those are conversations we will have, and I am looking forward in about 45 minutes getting after it.”

Murray missed the final 12 games due to a foot injury, and a report swirled that the QB could be inclined to return if Arizona got a new coach and GM.

However, Monti Ossenfort is still in town as the Cardinals’ GM. Murray signed a five-year, $230.5 million extension in 2022 that ties him to Arizona through 2028, so that is another obstacle for the franchise if they want a change at the QB position.

LaFleur did add that he has a “lot of respect for him [Murray] as a player” and that he has touched base with the QB. As of now, it remains to be seen what the future holds for the former No. 1 draft pick.
