The Arizona Cardinals are widely expected to move on from Kyler Murray this offseason, but there is one circumstance where the quarterback could reportedly be brought back.
Some around the Cardinals believe that Murray could return if the organization cleans house and brings in a new coach and general manager, according to Josh Weinfuss of ESPN. An entirely new regime might be willing to give Murray another shot, though it is not clear if that will actually be the case.
The expectation is that if coach Jonathan Gannon is fired, a new coach would want to bring in his own quarterback. The fate of general manager Monti Ossenfort is also up in the air, and it is not clear if one or both will be fired.
Murray is simply not seen as a franchise-changing quarterback anymore, both because of injuries and underachievement. His massive contract, which includes $36.8 million in guaranteed money for 2026, is also unappealing, both to the Cardinals and other teams.
There is a chance Murray will have a market this offseason, though the Cardinals are unlikely to get anything of value for him. Odds are he will move on, but it is not quite a guarantee just yet.
