Cardinals DB Josh Shaw suspended for betting on NFL games

Josh Shaw

A reserve defensive back for the Arizona Cardinals has been hit with a long-term suspension for betting on NFL games.

Defensive back Josh Shaw, who has spent the entire season on injured reserve, has been suspended through the 2020 season for placing multiple bets on NFL games over the course of the 2019 season. The league’s statement noted that there was no evidence that any games were compromised, or that any teammates or coaches were even aware of Shaw’s actions.

Shaw has appeared in 55 games since entering the league in 2015. He has made 14 starts, all of them from his time with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Obviously, players betting on games in the league they participate in is a huge no-no. It’s not surprising to see the league come down very hard on this behavior, and it may wreck Shaw’s NFL career.

This isn’t Shaw’s first brush with discipline. He was suspended in college at USC for telling an infamous lie about his ankle injuries.
