Report: Chargers likely to cut former No. 3 pick

The Los Angeles Chargers could make a tough decision with former No. 3 overall pick Joey Bosa this offseason.

ESPN’s Dan Graziano published an article on Wednesday that discussed all 32 NFL teams’ salary cap situations. In the section about the Chargers, the Graziano reported that people believe the AFC West team is “likely” to cut Bosa.

Bosa is set to make $13 million in base salary and has a $12.3 million roster bonus for 2025 that is due in March. He has a $36.4 million cap hit for 2025 but can be cut for $11.1 million in dead cap money.

Bosa was a cut candidate for the Chargers last year, but he agreed to a restructured deal and returned to the team.

Going over the salary cap does not seem to be an immediate concern for the Chargers. They have $214 million in salary cap commitments for 2025, which places them 31st in the league, with around $60 million in space.

Not only is there the possibility that the Chargers could cut Bosa, but they might also lose Khalil Mack, who will be a free agent.

With Bosa, the same concern as always persists: can he stay healthy?

Bosa played in 14 games last season after playing in 14 games combined over the previous two seasons. He had 22 tackles and 5 sacks over his 14 games.

The talk of the Chargers potentially cutting Bosa could just be a threat in order to get him to agree to a restructured deal to remain with the team. The 49ers have been mentioned as a possible fit for Bosa, and some have suggested the two teams could swap Deebo Samuel for Bosa.
