The Los Angeles Chargers are cleaning house in the wake of their humiliating loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Chargers announced on Monday that they have fired head coach Brandon Staley and longtime general manager Tom Telesco. Owner Dean Spanos issued a statement thanking both for their contributions to the organization.

The decision is hardly a shock, as Staley was already on the hot seat entering the season. Thursday night’s 63-21 defeat at the hands of the Raiders led to Staley being fired midseason, but it is possible the Chargers were planning to part ways with him in the coming weeks anyway.
Staley was in his third season as head coach of the Chargers. He was asked after his team’s hapless performance on “Thursday Night Football” if he believed he should remain in charge, and he gave a very stern response.
The 41-year-old Staley finishes with a record of 24-24 in two-plus seasons with the Chargers. He led the team to a playoff appearance last year, but that game ended with a historic collapse against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Some felt Staley should have been fired then.
Telesco had been the GM of the Chargers since 2013.
The Chargers will now begin their third head coach search in the past seven seasons. There has been some talk of them potentially pursuing a huge name, though Spanos is notorious for his unwillingness to spend big on coaches.
