Chiefs player turns himself in amid animal cruelty allegations
Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs on Thursday turned himself in to Tuscaloosa Police over allegations that he mistreated two dogs.
Buggs, 27, surrendered at the Tuscaloosa County Jail in Tuscaloosa, Ala., according to a report from ESPN. The charges against Buggs stem from authorities reportedly finding two dogs — a pit bull, and a Rottweiler mix — on the back porch of a house without access to food or water. The home was being rented out by Buggs. More details on the allegations against Buggs can be found here.
The Chiefs player was booked and released on a $600 bond on the same day. Buggs’ court hearing is scheduled for June 13.
Buggs’ camp has denied the allegations. His agent, Trey Robinson, labeled the whole ordeal a “subversive campaign” given that Buggs has a pending business dispute with the city of Tuscaloosa.
Buggs was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. The Alabama alum played three seasons with the Steelers before spending his last two campaigns with the Detroit Lions.
Buggs signed with the Chiefs as a practice player in January before landing a futures contract with the team the following month.
The Chiefs have had a messy offseason thus far when it comes to issues off the field. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes recently spoke out on wide receiver Rashee Rice, who faces eight felony charges for his involvement in a multi-vehicle car crash in March.
