Chris Jones was a backbone for the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl-winning defense last season, but he might not be as untouchable as one would think.
Former Dallas Cowboys executive and current NFL.com analyst Gil Brandt tweeted on Wednesday that star defensive tackle is a sleeper candidate to be traded at some point before or during the draft.
Jones, 25, earned Pro Bowl honors last year with 9.0 sacks and 36 combined tackles in just 13 appearances. He also brought the pressure on San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo that helped lead to the first interception of the game in Super Bowl LIV.
The ex-Mississippi State star being available for trade would be surprising, considering that the Chiefs just placed the franchise tag on him last month. However, such a situation is not unheard of, as players in the past like Jarvis Landry and Jared Allen were traded soon after being tagged. After all, Jones did not seem that thrilled about being franchise-tagged in the first place.
