Chiefs defensive star cashes big contract incentive with Super Bowl berth
The Ws continue to pile up for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Kansas City clinched their fourth Super Bowl berth in the last five seasons with a 17-10 win over the Baltimore Ravens in Sunday’s AFC Championship Game. Though aided by some major blunders on Baltimore’s part, it was a deserved victory for Kansas City, who dominated possession and managed to stifle the potent Ravens offense.
There was more good news too for Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones. Field Yates of ESPN revealed that the Super Bowl berth triggered a big contract incentive for Jones, who will now receive an extra $1 million.
The five-time Pro Bowler Jones was fairly quiet against the Ravens, finishing with zero tackles (albeit with a pass defended as well as a QB hit). But he earned his keep throughout the season for the Chiefs, securing First Team All-Pro honors and cashing on another performance-based incentive at the end of the regular season.
Interestingly enough, Jones began the year by holding out from the team for more money. But now he has gotten his bread (and then some).
