Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker more than redeemed himself after a missed field goal in the second quarter of Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts, while defensive tackle Chris Jones did his part to shut down his teammate’s haters.
Butker’s miss from 51 yards away in the first half at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo., ultimately didn’t matter, as the Chiefs came away with a 33-30 overtime win. Butker also scored all of Kansas City’s six points in overtime, including the game-winning kick from 40 yards away.
After the contest, Jones showed love for Butker and defended the kicker from the doubters.
“Y’all as a whole doubted my kicker last year and I just got two middle fingers to y’all. I love [Butker] and I trust in [Butker]. I think [Butker] is the best kicker in the league,” Jones said in the postgame press conference, via Mark Poulose of KCTV5.
“Two middle fingers to anyone who doubts my kicker,” added Jones, who had six total tackles and a quarterback hit in the game.
Butker has proven himself over and over for the Chiefs, which is why they signed him to a four-year, $25.6 million contract extension in 2024, making him the league’s highest-paid kicker.
Last season, he went 33/38 on field-goal attempts and 31/35 on extra-point kicks, which weren’t exactly top-notch, but Kansas City clearly still trusts him to deliver.
