Conflicting reports over whether Chris Long plans to play in 2018
Chris Long would provide the Philadelphia Eagles with tremendous depth along the defensive line in 2018 if he returns for another season, but there has been talk of him potentially retiring. So how likely is it that the two-time Super Bowl champion decides to call it a career?
On Wednesday, Michael Silver of NFL.com reported that Long is mulling over an offer from the Eagles that would increase his guaranteed money in 2018 from $1 million to nearly $4 million. According to Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer, Long already signed the new deal.
Chris Long signed new contract last week (#Eagles increased NS to $2.5M and guaranteed it), per NFL sources, so he seemingly knew of trade for Michael Bennett. @MikeSilver reported Long was mulling over whether to return or retire. Signature suggests he’s leaning toward return.

But wait, Silver says there is an out clause in the restructured contract and insists Long still hasn’t made up his mind.
The contract has an out clause. Long still deciding. https://t.co/YRbC3l5LVu

The Eagles have already made a big addition to their defensive front, so Long would only be a rotational player if he decides to keep playing. He has donated most of his recent game checks to charity, so there’s a chance he could be motivated to keep playing so he can continue to give back to the community.
