The Dallas Cowboys are looking for a new head coach after parting ways with Mike McCarthy following his five-year run with the team. The Cowboys have already spoken with Deion Sanders. Another former Cowboys star player could be a candidate for the gig, too.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram’s Nick Harris reported on Monday that Jason Witten is a potential candidate for the job.
BetOnline.ag has listed odds for who will be the next Cowboys head coach. They have Deion Sanders as the favorite, followed by Witten and then Kellen Moore.

Deion Sanders 3/2 (+150)
Jason Witten 7/4 (+175)
Kellen Moore 11/5 (+220)
They have several other coaches listed, but all of those other possibilities are 16:1 odds or greater. The betting odds suggest it’s a 3-person race to become the Cowboys’ head coach.
Witten is currently the head coach at Liberty Christian High School in Argyle, Tx., and has won two state championships there. The 42-year-old played in the NFL from 2003-2020 (though he missed the 2018 season due to a brief retirement). He spent 16 seasons with the Cowboys, and his final year with the Raiders.
Witten was a durable player who rarely missed a game. He made 11 Pro Bowls as a tight end and was a 2-time All-Pro selection. He is expected to join the Cowboys’ coaching staff in some capacity for the 2025 season.
