Former Indianapolis Colts player Darius Butler thinks Anthony Richardson mishandled things on Sunday when the quarterback checked out of the Colts’ game at the Houston Texans. But Butler thinks Richardson made another big mistake after the game — the quarterback told the truth.
Richardson admitted after Indianapolis’ 23-20 loss to the Texans that he took a play off because he was tired.
It’s bad enough that Richardson took a play off for that reason. But beyond that, Butler cannot understand why Richardson admitted it to the media. Butler shared his thoughts while serving on the panel during Monday’s episode of “The Pat McAfee Show.”

“After the game, you’ve got the 15-minute cool down period. Then you go stand in front of the media, and that’s when you deliver your message. And then for you to say, ‘Yeah, I can’t lie.’ That’s the time – hey, lie. I know we talk about transparency, but lie,” Butler advised Richardson to do.
“But the bigger issue is not being shape, not being that guy. You are the head of the team. That’s a huge 3rd-and-goal in a pivotal game. You cannot do this,” Butler said.
Richardson had some dreadful numbers in the game. He went 10/32 for 175 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. He also rushed for 45 yards.
Richardson is only 22 years old and seemingly in his prime physical years. He shouldn’t be getting so tired in games that he asks out. And he probably shouldn’t admit it either.
