DeMarco Murray says he ‘can’t worry’ about how many carries he gets

DeMarco Murray

DeMarco Murray was conciliatory when speaking about his reduced role with the Eagles on Tuesday.

Murray played in just eight snaps on Sunday night, and it’s been a remarkable fall in a short time for the man who led the league in rushing just last season. If Murray is bitter, however, he’s not saying so publicly.

“At the end of the day, you’ve got a position to make the playoffs, and that’s what a lot of people’s focus is on,” Murray said, via Zach Berman of Philly.com. “I can’t worry about how many plays I’m getting and things of that nature. I can only control what I can control, and whenever I get in, I just have to make the best of it. I can’t worry about it. I’m blessed. I have an opportunity to play in the NFL and be healthy, and I have a beautiful wife and beautiful little girl and a boy on the way, so at the end of the day, I can’t complain.”

Though he’s saying all the right things, Murray is clearly and understandably not content with his current role.

“I like everything,” Murray said, when asked if he has a preferred running style. “I like to just be in the game. Everything, whether it’s inside, outside, doesn’t matter. Opportunities. I like opportunities.”

Murray has basically lost his job in recent weeks, reportedly privately complained to owner Jeffrey Lurie about Chip Kelly’s offense, and there have been rumors that he wants out of Philadelphia. Publicly, at least, he’s being very diplomatic about his situation, but there’s no doubt he’s unhappy with how things have gone for him.
