Report: DeMarco Murray wants to be cut by Eagles, return to Cowboys
It is very obvious that DeMarco Murray has not enjoyed his first season with the Philadelphia Eagles, and the Pro Bowl running back is reportedly having thoughts of returning to the place where his career began.
Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole claims to have spoken to “multiple NFL executives” who believe Murray is trying to wiggle his way out of Philly so he can reunite with the Dallas Cowboys. The execs reportedly believe that Murray’s desire to leave the Eagles is one of the reasons he recently expressed concerns to team owner Jeffrey Lurie.
The obstacles are obvious. Murray is in the first year of his contract with the Eagles, and he is still owed $31 million in total and $9 million guaranteed. The Cowboys still aren’t willing to spend that kind of money on Murray, which means a trade would be highly unlikely.
Unless Chip Kelly — or whoever makes roster decision in Philly — decides to trade Murray to Dallas and Murray agrees to re-work his contract, the Cowboys would need the 27-year-old to be released.
Cole adds that Murray feels he is a better fit for the Cowboys’ power running scheme, which was evident when he rushed for 1,845 yards last season and averaged 4.7 yards per carry.
The Cowboys would love to bring Murray back at a discounted rate, but that would require Kelly’s cooperation. Perhaps Murray believes he can force his release by causing problems within the organization, especially when you consider what anonymous teammates are saying about him.
