The Detroit Lions have made a late addition to their defensive front, as they reportedly signed veteran defensive end Robert Ayers on Monday.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Ayers is inking a one-year deal with Detroit.

Lions signed former Buccaneers’, Giants’ and Broncos’ defensive Robert Ayers to a one-year deal, per source. More pass-rush help and versatility for the Lions.

Ayers, who will soon turn 33, has spent time with the Denver Broncos, New York Giants and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His best season came with the Giants in 2015 when he recorded 9.5 sacks.

There were rumors that the Lions were interested in reeling in a far bigger pass-rushing prize in advance of the regular season, but those were apparently not true.
