New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith is off the hook in relation to recent assault allegations.
The battery investigation into Smith has been closed and the quarterback will not face charges, the Davie, Fla. Police Department told ESPN on Tuesday. Neither Smith nor the woman accusing him of battery ever provided any follow-up statements to police.
“No further investigative steps can be reasonably taken with the information presently available. Any future investigative action is contingent on additional information or evidence being brought forward,” a case report read.
A woman made claims on social media last month that Smith had attacked her and was not caring for his six-year-old son. Those claims were accompanied by what appeared to be photos of Smith speaking with police officers. The mother of Smith’s child publicly disputed the claims about how Smith treated his son.
Smith was traded to the New York Jets earlier in the offseason in a somewhat surprising move, and is likely to be the team’s starter in 2026. He could still face further discipline from the NFL if the league conducts its own investigation. So far, the league has not offered any indication when or if that will happen.
