San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle took to social media on Wednesday to give Jimmy Garoppolo a shoutout, and the timing hardly seemed like a coincidence.
With a month having passed since the Super Bowl, Kittle decided to share a photo on Instagram featuring him and Garoppolo and the caption “lets run it back 10!”
The post probably would have gone largely unnoticed if not for the timing, but Kittle happened to share it a day after rumors popped up that the 49ers are seriously considering making a run at Tom Brady.
Is that Kittle’s way of saying he would rather have Garoppolo than Brady? We’ll probably never know, but it certainly appears that way.
Kittle is the exact type of playmaker Brady wants to throw to next season, and Brady also grew up rooting for the 49ers in the Bay Area. San Francisco can cut Garoppolo for just $4.2 million in dead cap money, so it’s not inconceivable that general manager John Lynch could think his team has a better chance of getting back to the Super Bowl and winning next year with Brady than it would with Jimmy G. Garoppolo had a few chances down the stretch against the Kansas City Chiefs and did not deliver.
Judging by the recent comments Lynch made about Garoppolo, it’s possible he feels the same way as Kittle. Time will tell.
