There have been numerous rumors about Tom Brady potentially leaving the New England Patriots to sign elsewhere, but none have made a whole lot of sense, until this one.
Patriots reporter Tom E. Curran joined Adam Schein on Mad Dog Sports Radio for an interview Tuesday and talked about Brady’s future. Asked to predict whether Brady would leave the Pats, Curran gave his thoughts, and mentioned San Francisco as a contender.
“50-50. To me, it’s either going to be New England or Tennessee, with the 49ers closing hard on the outside,” Curran said.

Curran described the interest between Brady and San Francisco as being genuine from both sides.
The 49ers have Jimmy Garoppolo at quarterback, whom they received from the Patriots in a generous 2017 trade. By sticking with Brady rather than going to Garoppolo, New England was able to reach another two Super Bowls and win one. This past season, Garoppolo’s Niners made the Super Bowl, but he was viewed as a weak link on the team.
Brady going to San Francisco makes plenty of sense. That was his favorite team growing up, he is from the Bay Area, they are Super Bowl-ready, and have an excellent offensive-minded coach in Kyle Shanahan. Brady would be in position to succeed if he went there.
San Francisco can cut Garoppolo for just $4.2 million in dead cap money. GM John Lynch is saying that his team is happy with Garoppolo at quarterback, but the opportunity to upgrade to Brady might be too much to pass up.
Could you imagine if three years after being traded away from New England in favor of Brady, the opposite happened with Garoppolo?
