Greg Olsen will miss his third game of the season on Sunday when the Carolina Panthers take on the New York Giants, but the star tight end sounds like he is getting very close to making his return.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, there is “confidence” Olsen will play against the Washington Redskins in Week 6 as long as he does not suffer any setbacks in practice.
#Panthers TE Greg Olsen (broken foot) won’t play today, but there is confidence that he’ll play Week 6 against the #Redskins if he has a good week of practice, I’m told. That would be 5 weeks from the original break.

Olsen re-fractured his foot in Week 1, which gave fans flashbacks of when the same thing happened in Week 2 last year. He missed several games last season but was eventually able to return, and he was expected to be out 4-5 weeks after suffering the injury again this season.
The Panthers seemed convinced Olsen was healthy during the offseason with the new contract they gave him, but the fracture he suffered will always carry a risk of re-injury. He has been Cam Newton’s favorite target when healthy in recent years, so his return should help boost Carolina’s offense.
