It has been more than a week since Jakobi Meyers requested a trade from the Las Vegas Raiders, but it appears he will remain with the team through at least the start of the regular season. Meyers is now taking a very business-like approach to the situation.
Meyers requested a trade on Aug. 25 after he and the Raiders reportedly could not make progress in contract negotiation talks. On Wednesday, Meyers was asked where things stand between him and the team heading into Week 1 against the New England Patriots. The veteran wide receiver began with a blunt five-word response.
“I asked, they said no,” Meyers said. “That’s where that stopped. I’m gonna just keep doing my job until some things shake out either way, honestly. I don’t know which way it’s gonna go, but I’ll be ready for whatever. … I’m ready to go if you need me to go, I’m ready to play if you need me to play.”
Meyers was then asked if he is happy in Las Vegas, and he danced around the question.
“It’s a job, you know what I mean? At the end of the day, I’m happy to be doing my job with my boys, but I can be happy anywhere,” Meyers replied.

Meyers is due $10.76 million in the final year of his contract this year. He is coming off a season in which he overcame poor quarterback play to catch 87 passes for 1,027 yards and 4 touchdowns. Meyers has 12 touchdown catches in two seasons since he signed with the Raiders.
There is one AFC team that is widely viewed as a logical fit for Meyers, but the Raiders have not yet shown a willingness to deal the 28-year-old.
