Jay Cutler: I’ve Never Had My Toughness Questioned by Teammates

Jay Cutler has become a whipping boy around the NFL and here at LBS. It all started when he left the NFC Championship Game with a knee injury. Players around the league couldn’t believe he took himself out of the game and let him hear it on twitter. Fans went crazy and began burning his jersey. Even congressmen began taking public shots at him. When camp opened up on Friday, he addressed the questions regarding his toughness.

“A lot of my toughness was questioned. That’s all new to me. It’s never been an issue for me or I’ve never been questioned about it.

“I know anyone who’s played with me or coached me has never questioned that. And I know the guys in the locker room aren’t going to. You can’t get caught up in that stuff. There’s going to be stuff coming at you left and right, and you kind of have to take it as it is and move on. As long as I have the guys in my locker room behind me, I can’t worry about anything else.”

The dude plays despite diabetes and got hammered the first half of the season because of shoddy line play. We never had questioned his toughness until the Championship Game. I still believe Cutler is one of the toughest QBs in the league when it comes to withstanding physical pain. I just don’t think he’s very strong mentally, and I think he exited the game because his spirit was broken.
