Jeff Saturday cooks Drew Brees on ‘Get Up’

Drew Brees has landed a regular role with ESPN for the remainder of the 2025 NFL season, and the former New Orleans Saints quarterback is already taking friendly fire from his new co-workers.

Brees is scheduled to appear on “First Take” at least every Tuesday through the end of the NFL season. He came out hot in his debut earlier this week by saying the Philadelphia Eagles have a “boring” offense. While Brees noted that he respects the Eagles and understands their formula has worked, the 13-time Pro Bowl QB said he “can’t stand to watch that offense.” You can listen to his full comments.

On Wednesday morning’s edition of “Get Up,” fellow ESPN analyst and former Pro Bowl player Jeff Saturday issued a fiery response to Brees.

“Let me just show you my shocked face — a quarterback saying that running the ball is not fun to watch. I mean, they have won 19 of 20 games doing it a certain way, and a Super Bowl, by the way, in the mix of all of this,” Brees said. “I guess winning is boring, but I like watching boring and I love to watch offensive line play, which is much more impressive to me.”

Saturday was the starting center for the Peyton Manning-led Indianapolis Colts when the team lost to Brees and the Saints in Super Bowl XLIV. He reminded Brees that New Orleans’ offense did a lot of dinking and dunking in that game.

“Let’s talk about Brees and the Saints, who I lost a Super Bowl to so I’m still salty about that. Sidney Slants and Checkdown Charlie and all this stuff, and we act like we’re just airing it out,” Saturday said. “I think they completed like 27 passes against us of 2 yards or less. That’s the same as running the ball, Drew.”

Brees knew what he was getting himself into at ESPN, so we doubt he is offended by anything Saturday said. Having analysts call one another out is part of the formula for any successful talk show. Saturday was just playing the game, as was Brees when he made his initial remarks about the Eagles.

Brees previously worked for NBC in 2021 as a studio analyst and play-by-play analyst for Notre Dame games. He has said he believes he is capable of being one of the best broadcasters in the business. We can expect plenty more hot takes from him as he tries to build his media brand at ESPN.
