The New York Jets are being publicly mum on who their starting quarterback will be once the regular season starts, but the team’s players think they have their answer.
According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, two Jets players have suggested that the team expects rookie Sam Darnold to be named the quarterback for the team’s regular season opener on Sept. 10 against the Detroit Lions.
“You kind of know where the flow is going,” one player told Cimini.

None of this is a surprise. Jets coach Todd Bowles had already hinted that the team has pretty much decided who will start, and Darnold’s solid performance in the team’s third preseason game — which he started — seemed to serve as confirmation that the Jets were going to go with the rookie. It could open the door for a Teddy Bridgewater trade if the Jets go that route.
