One of Jimmy Garoppolo’s former and current teammates isn’t surprised that he’s quickly become the franchise quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers.
Defensive end Cassius Marsh, who played with Garoppolo in New England and eventually San Francisco last season, says the quarterback used to pick apart the defense during practice and is a better athlete than Tom Brady.
“I already knew that was going to happen; I called it before anybody,” Marsh said of Garoppolo’s 5-0 record, via Eric Branch of SFGate. “I knew because I was with the Patriots and he would shred our defense every day. He’d shred the first team every day, and it looked no different than when Tom (Brady) was on the field. He’s a much better athlete than Tom; he’s super disciplined and works hard. I’m very happy to have him as my quarterback.”
Marsh may be more eager to praise Garoppolo than one Niners legend, but after five wins in five starts, expectations are high. Marsh seems to be a true believer.
