Joe Burrow critical of taunting call on Zay Flowers

Joe Burrow is barely ever active on social media, but the Cincinnati Bengals quarterback had to break his silence after seeing one particular call in Sunday’s AFC Championship Game.

The Baltimore Ravens were trailing the Kansas City Chiefs 17-7 in the second half when Zay Flowers provided his team with a much-needed spark. The rookie wide receiver caught a 54-yard pass from Lamar Jackson that got the Ravens inside the Kansas City 10-yard line — at least momentarily.

Flowers was flagged for taunting after he stood over L’Jarius Sneed and tossed the ball at the Chiefs cornerback.

Burrow was so bothered by the call that he decided to post on X for the first time since Jan. 3. The quarterback had a very simple message in defense of his division rival.

“Let the guys taunt,” Burrow wrote.

The Ravens still should have scored on the drive, but Flowers made another critical mistake a few plays later. He caught a pass over the middle and had the ball punched out as he was diving into the end zone. The Chiefs recovered the fumble for a touchback.

As for the taunting call, Flowers should have been a lot smarter than that given the situation. We don’t expect the NFL to take Burrow’s advice anytime soon.
