Joe Tessitore, Booger McFarland will not return to ‘Monday Night Football’

Monday nights in the NFL will be looking a lot different next season.

Richard Deitsch of The Athletic reported on Saturday that ESPN will not bring back the “Monday Night Football” broadcasting team of Joe Tessitore and Booger McFarland. The successors, Deistch says, will be internal, and both Tessitore and McFarland will remain in prominent roles at ESPN.

Tessitore had served as the “Monday Night Football” play-by-play man since 2018, and McFarland joined him the next season as the color commentator following Jason Witten’s return to the NFL. Longtime sideline reporter Lisa Salters rounded out the team.

The writing had been on the wall for Tessitore and McFarland for some time now, and the decreasing revenues for both ESPN and parent company Disney amid the current situation probably sealed their fate. A list of potential internal replacements recently surfaced as well.
